Most new Toyotas have a recommended oil change interval of 5,000 miles, however, some new models have an extended oil change interval of 10,000 miles.
Toyota service intervals are listed in the owner’s manual of your vehicle. It will highlight recommended service intervals for several maintenance items, including:

  • Air filter changes
  • Brake servicing
  • Suspension inspections


Toyota vehicles in which 0w-20 synthetic oil is required have been approved for extended oil change intervals of 10,000 miles/12 months. All other engines require an oil change every 5,000 miles. In the case of extended Toyota oil change intervals, drivers should still check their oil level regularly to make sure their engine is protected.

Special Operating Conditions

Toyota recommends that all vehicles go through 5,000-mile oil changes if they’re driven under certain conditions. These include: 

  • Frequent towing
  • Driving on dirt roads
  • Driving in dusty areas
  • Frequent short trips
  • Extreme cold under 32°F
  • Extensive idling


If your regular driving habits include these conditions, you should bring your Toyota in for servicing every 5,000 miles.
